The Family Is Coming!

I am dreading this weekend.  My parents and my aunt is coming up for a visit. I love my family and while I do look forward to seeing them, thankfully they will be here only for the weekend. They drive me crazy and there is a lot about this weekend I'm not looking forward to.  They've been driving up to bring me the rest of my belongings, but they have been pushing it to get up here.  They drove late into the night Wednesday, and all day and evening yesterday, and last I talked to them, they are about six hours away.  I tried to get them to take it easy on the way up, mainly because I didn't want them cranky and in a bad mood when they get here because they haven't rested enough. They will do the opposite of what I suggest they do anyway, and they are taking what looks like to me to be the most aggravating route, so I can't imagine them being in a great mood when they get here.  Hopefully, I can just keep them busy all weekend and they won't drive me too crazy.

I moved away from my birth city in 1989. I’ve lived in Dallas and now Denver. My parents have never visited. My brother has visited twice but my sister never has. I think you’re blessed to have a family that will visit and bring your belongings.

In the case of family you are always going to get several views on every situation. I agree you are blessed that your family cares enough to bring what remains of your belongings; the offset is, apparently they come with them and you have to endure whatever that means. I hope you are strong enough to get through this weekend, Joe. You will be in my prayers.

I am definitely blessed that they are coming. I thought they'd always find an excuse not to, so I'm glad they didn't find an excuse and are actually coming.

I'll make it through. I always dread it but for the most part, it will be nice having them here.

Joe... not for nothing.. but I have a huge family.. I am one of 11. I have lived in Fla for 15 yrs.. very close to the beaches of St. Pete... I had exactly 1 of my siblings visit. I am living in Denver now for about 13 yrs... close to downtown and within an hour of the beautiful Rocky Mtns, ski resorts, hiking and biking trails and I have had exactly 2 visits from my family in all that time.
All my family live on the East Coast... NJ, NC, TN etc... I would love if they visited... but they always find some excuse.. I finally gave up caring whether or not they come.. it's sad, but true.
What I am trying to say is that it's just a weekend.. You'll appreciate them more when they leave but you will appreciate the memories they will leave you with more.

Absolutely, Lenny. Please don't get me wrong. I am so glad that they are coming. I lived in Mississippi for ten years, and they only visited a few times. When I thought they weren't coming, I was very upset, so if I whine a little about certain things, please pay no attention. You have to realize, I have a southern mother who will immediately spot the slightest dust or anything that isn't just so. So it's more about me being nervous because I don't want to disappoint her. It's all more nerves than dread.

Everyone gives joy when they visit. Some when they arrive, some while they are there, still others when they depart. Family usually gives all three!

Grow up young buddy!!! Show that real Southern Hospitality that is inbred in your dna! They will have a great time and you will also....do not think your family is like Eunice's family from Carol Burnett...and if they are, well, so many more families are as well. So, live with the joy!!!!

It will be just like the grandchildren coming...so glad to see them arrive, and then the most memorable time is seeing the red tail lights as they leave.....

Enjoy those special moments not always happy ones but on all means, they're surely happy to know that your life is getting better.

My dad died on March 25 2014 and I miss him.

So cherish those moments with your parents because they are precious ones.

Have a nice weekend.

Joe.. you thought that was bad? My mother would get up at 2:00 A.M. and turn on the unusually loud EUREKA to vacuum because she couldn't sleep knowing it had not been done... Who cares if she woke up 11 kids!

Yeah, I could write a book.
