Montreal

In July, my mom is bringing my eight year old niece up to visit me. One of the things we wanted to do was to drive up to Montreal for the day. None of us have ever been to Canada and I'd love to be able to take my niece somewhere and let her see something new. I know that I have several people who read this blog that live in Montreal, and I'd like their advice. We will only really be in Montreal for the afternoon and I'd love any suggestions on a place to eat lunch and things we should see.

In other news, finally my dental appointment is today. I don't think I've ever been so ready for a tooth to be fixed. I hate going to the dentist, but I'm tired of the pain and being careful what and how I eat. So, as much discomfort as I feel going to the dentist, I'm glad it will soon be taken care of.

There is a life lesson in what you said about going to the dentist.

I have been to Canada several times but never, to my sorrow, to Montreal. Should be great, eh?

Dental appts. are in the category of necessary evils, but in the end we have to be thankful they are available to us. And oh the sigh of relief when all is finished and you wave good-bye as you walk out the door! :)

Hi,

It's too bad you're coming here, in Montreal for only one day..

I could host you and take you around to what is to see..

But in one day, it's too short..

I'll mail you my suggestions and links to what is to see here..

Mainly, the Old Montreal is a must and the Old Port too..
I can suggest you take some metro passes which will allow you to go in lot of places like the Olympic Stadium, the Botanical Garden and the Biodome.. Those are very near the Pie IX metro Station..

Also, going up on the Mont Royal and see the city from there is awesome. When the weather is clear, you can see all the south shore for miles...

I'll be sending you more infos..

I think you'd love Montreal. I love it. About 8 years ago I spent a whole summer up there. I could totally see living in Canada. I really enjoyed Quebec also. Very different then Montreal though. But the night life was very fun in Montreal and the guys were very friendly, as was everyone. I think Jiel would make a swell tour guide! Hi Jiel!!!! I hope you will find some peace now with the tooth. Would you believe I rather the dentist than then doctor? I can't figure it out either.

I lived in Montréal for 10 years and loved it... but I have to admit that going there for one afternoon from your location will involve more time driving than you will spend enjoying the city. I go back from time to time and cann ot spend less than three days there... and still feel like I miss most of it.
However, as Jiel said, you can start by the typical tourist attractions, which showcase the city's prettiest side. It might just convince you to go back from more!
