Nothing/Everything

There were a thousand different things I could talk about, but honestly, I have nothing to say. I could give an update on Isabella, who's doing great by the way and is rarely more than three feet from me. I could talk about my depression because I was feeling a bit low last night. I could talk about how busy I have been at work which is fantastic and I love every second of it. I could talk about the dinner I had with a wonderful and lonely older lady, we talked and laughed and had a grand time. I could talk about any of these things but I'm just not in the mood to make a full post of them.

So instead, this is what I will do. If you have a question for me, ask it. I will do my best to either answer it in a comment or it will be my Monday post. Ask me anything you want, and you are quite likely to get an answer.

    1. I don't attend church up here like is should. I did find a local church. Most of the churches of Christ up here do not have their own buildings so one meets in a hotel another in a Grange Hall. They tend to be very small congregations. The church I attended seemed to be very nice but it didn't feel like home. I've always found that you get a certain vibe from certain churches. This one, I was unfamiliar with the songs they sang, they didn't have a regular preacher, and the benches were extremely uncomfortable. I'm probably just making excuses, but it just didn't seem like a good fit for me. As for the unfamiliar songs, singing is one of the things I love most about the churches of Christ, so to struggle with the songs was very difficult for me.

    3. I hope your new opportunity at work is rewarding and successful. I'm hoping to find a congregation around here that does feel like home. It may not necessarily be church of Christ though. I plan to try a few other churches. There is a Methodist and a United church almost next door to me, close enough that it would be silly not to walk.

Cody, we seem to have a lot in common. I'd love to get to know you better. You're welcome to email me at jec1918@gmail.com.

  2. Have you tried churches on the more liberal side of the Christian spectrum like United Church of Christ, some Presbyterian, most Episcopal, or even some Methodist and American Baptist churches?

Years ago a friend of a friend was in a similar predicament to yourself. He was an out gay man whose preferred form of worship was of the emotional, evangelical/pentecostal form. He found that the only way he could live in community was to attend a pentecostal church on Sunday that was a long distance from his small town in Kentucky. He went into the closet for an hour or so every Sunday.

    1. I do plan on trying a few different churches. As I said in the comment above, there is a United Church of Christ and a Methodist Church within walking distance of me that I keep trying to get up the courage to attend. I hate doing things by myself, but I'll get there.

    1. My favorite song is "You Are My Sunshine." My mother used to sing it to me as a child and when I have panic attacks, it is always the best way to calm me down, at least it used to be. It's been hard to listen to lately because it reminds me of the dear friend that I lost last year, but it is still my favorite song, as corny as that may be.

There are other songs that I love, but "You Are My Sunshine" outranks them all.

  4. My favorite hymn from Church of Christ days is "Master, the tempest is raging."
