The bad ones make the good ones that much better...sorta like eating the broccoli before you get to the steak.....
ReplyDeleteI love that analogy. It's true pretty much in all situations
DeleteJoe, I know a little about your frustration with students. I do substitute teaching and I can see what is happening with students today and it is scary. It's the development of society with parents too busy with their things that can't provide discipline and guidance.
ReplyDeleteI sub at the elementary level and see how it will when these students go to high school. Please hope that you are reaching some students. Our future rests upon the students who do care.
I would think English and History would be at least a little interesting to someone with any curiousity. You can only imagine what it was like teaching Earth Science as I did, like anyone gives a rats ass about igneous rocks.
ReplyDeleteYou are one of the reasons I have so much respect for teachers. You care. Regardless. I work in a system where the children have a 6th sense: entitlement. We have schools where Hummers are in the STUDENT parking lot. I feel for their teachers. On the other end of the county, we have children who struggle to get anything good in life, and the teachers there have a different challenge. They all meet it, as best they can. HEROES ONE AND ALL!!! THANK YOU!!!

Show 'em how it's done!!!
ReplyDeleteI am sure you have read - I'm teaching at a credit recovery school - wrong on so many levels - but I can't believe these kids in some cases who think they deserve so much when they're barely hanging on and I am their last chance.
