Emptiness

I'm not sure what the above painting is called or who the artist is, but for me, it summed up a lot of emotions I've been experiencing. After two weeks, I thought I'd be able to come to terms with the loss of my friend, and while I can keep from crying, there is still an emptiness that I cannot deny. This will be a short post because if I wrote any more it would just be a repeat of emotions I've already discussed.

I was glad to see that Jordan Smith was the winner of Season 9 of The Voice.

  1. Joe, I'm not sure when you will be able to "come to terms" with the loss of your friend. Right now you have been in your grieving period for only a little over two weeks. We all grieve at our own rate, but this was a huge loss for you and cannot be rushed. You have a lot of feelings to work through and the best thing you can do is continue seeing your counselor. In time it will get better, as trite as that may sound, but it cannot be forced. In the meantime, be kind to yourself. You deserve it. (((Hugs)))

  2. May I recommend Gerald May's The Dark Night of the Soul: A Psychiatrist Explores the Connection Between Darkness and Spiritual Growth? It is a wonderful book for many reasons, and it might help. It does not focus so much on the unanswerable, "Why?" but rather on how profound experiences of loss (as John of the Cross knew, all dark nights involve loss) can be a channel of SomeOne's power bringing us closer.

    Peace and love to you.

  3. Joe, like Susan, I can't tell you when you'll come to terms with your loss, but I can assure you that you will. And, you will eventually come to term with future loses, just as you came to terms with previous loses. Michael is right "The Dark Night of the Soul" will help anyone and will help you as a "man of faith" more because you have already learned the talk and can walk the talk, I have been and will continue to offer prayers for your journey. If you can find a "Blue Service" for persons, dealing with loss in this season of Advent as we await the coming of our Savior.

    Peace be with You

  4. This nice painting is from Zack Zdrale, title: Conversation
    40 x 30, oil on canvas, 2012.

It's a good expression of what you're going through with your lost of a best friend.

Time is the only cure to your pain.

  5. May each day bring you less pain and more joy in the happy memories of your friend. Keep taking each day as it comes.
