I don’t often get a lot of comments. At best, I get one or two per post. I know from my statistics page, that I get about 1000 page views a day, sometimes more, sometimes less, but it averages about 1000. Yesterday, I got (at the time of writing this), nine comments on my morning blog piece. That’s a lot of comments for me. If so many people are going to my blog consistently, why aren’t you commenting? Don’t think I’m scolding my readers for not commenting. I’m definitely not doing that, I’m just asking. Is it because I don’t often ask you questions? Is it because what I say is not commentable? I love hearing from you guys. It makes writing this blog more enjoyable, and I love writing this blog.
So here are some statistics. The top ten countries visiting my blog are: the United States, France, Spain, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Russia, Australia, and Italy. Y’all are a diverse group of people. I also know that over half of you use Chrome as your browser. But these are just statistics. I’d like to know who you are. I did a post years ago which I think was titled: Age, Sex, Location. So I’m asking you guys to answer this if you will (Ladies out there, since it’s impolite to ask your age, I won’t be upset if you skip that one). But I’d love it if you commented with your age, sex, location, and something about you, and if you’d like to comment about the number of comments I get, please do so. I just want to get to know my readers better. Thanks.
36, male, cincinnati. enjoy reading your blog (and others) on the daily. In fact, the more I tend to do so, the more I feel like I know the person/people behind the blogs. Thank you for sharing part of you with us (the readers). Perhaps lack of comments are due to the fact of the lack of pattern of commenting. People are, after all, simply geared towards patterned behavior. Cheers!
ReplyDelete66, male, rural eastern North Carolina. Check in almost every day. Enjoy your thoughts -- very much relate as I'm an educator (retired) in the very conservative South. Never had your roaming, adventurous spirit! Best to you!
ReplyDelete75, male, Chicago; blogger, commentary on current events and social movements; mentor and coach to new small businesses and nonprofits. lots of volunteer activities.
ReplyDeleteHello Joe,
ReplyDeleteI'm 40, male and live in Montreal. I'm married and my husband and I have been trying to adopt a child for some time. I work in Downtown Montreal for a film distributor, but I live in a suburb just North of the city. I have left a few comments on your blog over the years, but I started my blog mainly to exchange with people who share my hobby. I make it a point to comment on the work in their post, and only read any non-hobby blogs. It's a time thing.
Big hug,
Giac
Hello Joe,
ReplyDelete62, male in Cleveland. Got married to my husband in 2015, but we have been together since 1999. Recently retired and looking forward to the next chapter of my life.
Best wishes,

Gender: female. Age: old enough. Location: Manhattan. Telecommute to work at an NYS college as an editor. Have read your posts every morning for over 5 years. Comment whenever I feel I have something relevant to add. I like that you are so forthcoming about your life's adventure—the good and the not so good—and...so very appreciative of the male anatomy pics. I too wish your site generated more comments. Hopefully, today's responses will garner some insight into that issue. Good luck with everything, Joe. Hope you continue to enjoy blogging. <3
ReplyDeleteHi Joe,

I visit your blog every day, not always putting a comment but many times evaluating your pics.

Hi,
ReplyDelete63,, male, western pa/ ny area. I follow your blog through a gay almanac link. This is the first I’ve ever replied to any blog. I like the blog for your opinions and don’t have anything add.
61-year-old gay man...Have been following your blog for years...I do comment once in a while...I live-temporarily-in Las Vegas...I love the work you do in education/museum/docent...I had a friend of a friend when I lived in DC who worked for the Smithisioan doing their exhibits...He mentioned all that went into them to make them educational and appealing...
ReplyDeleteI just turned 70. I live in San Francisco. I am also a cartoonist.
ReplyDeleteI am a 69 year old, single gay man from San Diego, CA. I have been following you for many years and I learn a lot from your blog on various subjects. I love your poetry, your sexy pictures, and your religious teachings. I am retired now but I was an actor and stock broker in my younger days.
ReplyDeleteMale/60/New England: I’ve read your blog for a few years. I enjoyed the longer essays on culture, history and religion that you did more of before your move to Vermont. I wish you did more of these, but I note that you may have neither the time and not the inspiration to write long-form pieces now. I note also your love of the male posterior.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting thread, Joe.
ReplyDeleteI am male, 76, and retired just last March 31. When I worked I was an attorney (still am one, for that matter). For many years I was a senior executive for the U. S. federal government. When I left the government I became a senior corporate officer for a couple of Fortune 500 companies and then did some private consulting for a few years before health issues became a problem.
My introduction to your blog came from Justin Dunes back in the day when he still ran a blog, so I have been reading your stuff on a daily basis for nearly as long as you have been posting.
Over the years I have posted many times, but seldom had any sort of a response from you or any other member of your followers. Even when I sent you a couple of donations upon the illness of your prior cat I never received any sort of a response.
I usually use my real first name on here, but posting this reply as anonymous allows me to be a bit more open in telling you about myself.
Anon, I realize that one of my downfalls is that I don’t often respond to comments. I know I should but a lot of times it gets away from me. As for not responding when a donation was sent for my sick cat, I can’t tell you how embarrassed I am over that. I have always thought I responded to every donation. Since I apparently didn’t in your case, please accept my sincere apology for not thank you and accept my sincere thanks for helping me out in a time of need.
DeleteI am a 50 yr old woman (and not happy one bit about that 50 either!) LOL!
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I live in Fort Worth TX. I work full time as a Contract Administrator for an aircraft sales company and my wife is retired/disabled. We have 3 cats and they keep up quite entertained. We watch a lot of tv, documentaries and movies, I read and knit and my wife plays computer games. We stay busy!
I love your blog and enjoy checking in most days.
Wow, I am humbled by the number of comments today and yesterday. Thank you all so much. It has been wonderful getting to know a little about those who read my blog. Thank you.

Will Comment more Often.
Love your Blog and the different things you post
Like you I suffer from Migranine Headaches.
Male, 66, Central PA. Stats are funny. I get hits mostly from the US and the UK and, what I find surprising, quite a number from Italy, that is until the Russian chicks from Chaturbate start hitting the site. I learned a long time ago, never click on those links, otherwise I'll get to see a naked, blond Russian chick crawling across a bed towards the camera. Can we talk about scary?
ReplyDeleteDave, I know what you mean about the scary Russian chicks. I get those hits too.
Delete26, gay male from DC. I don't remember how I found your blog, but here I am.
ReplyDeleteHi, Joe, that's a fast ball, but here goes. I find the social media to be a parallel universe - bogus, shallow, and dangerous - to the real one. So I don't "do" Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Blogspot etc. I have from way back when a Google account but never use it. Anything personal posted is fair game for anyone so I don't go outside "Anonymous" and withhold any fact that might identity me. By nature I prefer, in any case, to fly below the radar. In making comments here (as I do quite often), my concern is to provide you,Joe, with affection and support. And my first name is, indeed, Roderick P.S. In my view constant nudes become repetitive and so boring - "less is more"
ReplyDeleteRoderick, thank you f9r all your comments, I always look forward to them, I know I often say too much about who I am to be completely anonymous. Anyone who took the effort could figure out who I was. But, I like blogging and sometimes more of the truth comes out. I do try to be very real and not fake on my blog,
ReplyDeleteJoe, I found your website when searching for gay Christians in the Church of Christ. I follow your blog regularly. I’m 60 and an accountant in Dallas, Texas. I particularly like the blog on Sunday and your message for that day. I, like you, long for a relationship after divorcing my wife after 34 years a couple of years ago. Thank you for being here.
ReplyDeleteHi Joe, I have been visiting your blog for quite a few years after googling for gay and Christian (as many of us have done). At the time, I was in a very fragile state and questioning my identity - I was a late bloomer since I only came out at the age of 55. Now the years have passed and I am much more confident in who I am and have been able to help many others questioning like me. I am 68, married to my husband since 2011 (but together since 2007) and we live in Queensland, Australia. I do love your posts that are connected with spirituality/Christianity and find tremendous encouragement that it is possible (and very happily so) to be both Christian and gay. I visit your blog every day (along with about a dozen others, all of which I keep in my Bookmarks). I just run down the list! I really appreciate it that you do try and post on a daily basis! Keep up the good work, and continue to be the inspiration that so many of us need.
ReplyDeleteGay male, 56, Ottawa (Canada)
ReplyDeleteBeen reading your blog for a few years, but I don't comment often... maybe more now? Like somebody mentioned earlier I enjoyed your longer pieces, but I understand you probably don't have much time now.

ReplyDeleteNow look what you went and did, opened a can of worms!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, Im 45. A gay male, living in Philadelphia. Did drag for years and still do occasionally. Beside knowing men, who I've made my life's work, I am a visual stylist for Bloomingdales, and do freelance interior design on the side. I'm happily sort of single...after a 12 year relationship ended back in 2015. I enjoy the company of two great guys. Not together though, lol. It's just casual dating.
As far as comments. It is strange. Some bloggers get very little comments, and other seem to get 100 comments when all they might say is they got up and farted in a brown paper bag. Seems to be no rhyme or reason. I have read some very good posts on several blogs and I'm sometimes surprised there are no comments. It wasn't till about three or four years ago I noticed a blog I used to read, Bourbons and Pearls, the blogger replied to comments. Her readers seemed to really enjoy the interactions. So now I started that. Not all the time, but when I can. I think readers like to know you've read it. I reply as a way to thank them for taking the time to comment, and it also has commenters talking to each other in the comments section. Some of my posts become a regular chat box. I also know there are many interlopers who like to just read, and that's cool too.
I am a 25 year old man from Alabama. I found your blog about seven years ago. I was a freshman at a Church of Christ college. As a lifelong gay man and a lifelong member of the church (I continue to persevere in the faith), I was looking for resources to help me to accept myself without losing my religion, and your blog was the answer to my research and prayers. I cannot overstate how much it helped me. I stuck around because I am a lover of history and politics. Back then, you blogged a lot about both, being in Alabama at the time. Now, I stick around because I love your writing, no matter the subject. We have a lot in common or, at least, I relate to your experience as a gay COC in the heart of Dixie. I continue to call Alabama home and I am an accountant at one of the big four firms. I have read your blog most every day since 2012, but I believe this is my first time commenting.
ReplyDelete57 male from Texas.
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy your blog!
Mistress Maddie, I have found that comments tend to beget comments on most blogs.
ReplyDeleteJoe, perhaps you would like to devote a posting one day to the recent schism which has developed in the United Methodist Church over the issues of gay congregants, same sex marriage, and ordination of gay clergy who perform such marriages. Under the new rule adopted at their recent annual assembly any clergyman who performs a same sex marriage is to receive a mandatory one year suspension without pay and a second offense is to result in a mandatory separation from the church.
The Washington Post has had several recent articles about this issue.
