Migraine

Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily,
And your righteousness shall go before you;
The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
— Isaiah 58:8

I developed a bad migraine last night before I could get a post written for today. When the really bad ones hit, it’s very difficult to think clearly. So, all I’ll say is that I hope all of you have a wonderful and peaceful Sunday.

  3. Capricornus, honestly, I don't think they can. I have been working with some of the best headache specialists, and they have been helpful, but not 100 percent effective. Migraines are a mysterious illness, especially chronic migraines. Scientists think they know that calcitonin gene-related peptide or CGRP is part of the problem that causes migraines, and there are new medicine that inhibit CGRP, which I have taken several (Emgality, Aimovig, & Vyepti). Some work, some don't. I am starting a new one (Qulipta) tomorrow. The prescription is supposed to be delivered today. My neurologist told me once that the cause of migraines are difficult to determine because it can be different reasons for different people. The same is true of treatments. The treatment for migraines is a lot of trial and error until they find something that works.

    For me, the migraines are compounded by trigeminal neuralgia (TN). My trigeminal nerve was damaged when I had an abscessed tooth that did not respond well to treatments. Eventually, the tooth was extracted, but the damage was already done. The TN is very painful and affects the right side of my face. Along with weather changes, when my trigeminal nerve acts up, it usually causes a migraine that accompanies it. Botox had been successful before the TN developed, but as the TN got worse, the Botox became less successful.

    My current migraine is probably a reaction to the second dose of the monkeypox vaccine. Common side effects of the JYNNEOS vaccine include tiredness, headache and muscle pain. There may also be redness, swelling, soreness and itchiness where you received the injection. I've been experiencing all of these symptoms since Saturday night, and I had the second dose of the vaccine Friday afternoon.
