By the way, my Thanksgiving dinner turned out very nice. I wish I’d had someone to share it with, then maybe I wouldn’t have eaten too much of the dressing I made. Cornbread dressing is one of my favorite part of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

Black Friday
For those of you in the United States, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. For those of you in other countries who don’t celebrate the holiday, I hope you’re having a nice week. A lot of people will be out shopping today. There are always loads of Black Friday sales. I doubt I will be one of them. My plan is to stay in and be lazy. Isabella gets to be lazy everyday, so I’m going to take a page out of her playbook. I doubt I’ll sleep like she does, but I plan to just relax.

Hello from Brazil.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice Thanksgiving dinner and think you're wise to stay away from the black Friday shoppers. I never understood the fascination with the desire to fend off crowds and deal with all the craziness associated with the day.
Dressng is also my favorite. The turkey is a side dish for dressing to me, and I enjoy the dressing much more
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI love all things Thanksgiving. I am pretty tempered in my eating when I get an invite. I love turkey and all the fixings. I balk at having turkey in a restaurant because I don't know how it is brought in. I don't want turkey in a bag and boiled. I prefer fresh off the bird. I asked one time and the server was upfront. In so many words Hell No!! I did a light search in my area for a pecan pie-half will do-and egg nog ice cream or drink. Sprouts had pecan pies WITH chocolate chips. What?? The worker and I got to talking and she said YES the pie was ruined with the chocolate chips. They also had a NO SUGAR version. That is about as bad as making something gluten-free. Sugar is not bad just don't overload the pie. I like Sprouts because some of the baked goods are a little better than Safeway, and Kroger... I did not find a good quality egg nog drink. How about egg nog and almond milk? Ice cream was nowhere to be found. Once again I want better quality than the big box grocery stores. In Denver, we have a great local ice cream creamy and the zit-faced teenager looked at me like I lost my mind when I asked if they had egg nog ice cream.
Enjoy your day/weekend. Sometimes it is just nice to putz around.
Best,
XO

ReplyDeleteI had dinner with a couple who have hosted me and my (late) brother and others for a number of years, This year guests included another member of our church, a former neighbor of theirs, and a family of four visiting from Miami (originally from Brazil): parents and two teenasged sons. I like dark meat turkey and got plenty of thigh meat. The hostess makes a tasty meat dressing, which wasn't qute as spicy this year as in the past. For dessert there was pecan pie, and I had brought my "signature home baked pumpkin pie" (Mrs. Smith's). It was an enjoyable afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThe lady of the house remarked at one point that if she hadn't had the help of the other lady, she would not have done the dinner. It has me wondering what will happen at Christmas. Maybe I can cook more than just the pie.
