The other day, I overheard someone say that they “don’t believe in homosexuality.” What does that actually mean anyway? We aren’t something mythical. We aren’t ghosts. We are real, so there is no believe it or not. Homosexuality exists. I and many of you who read this blog attest to that fact. The thing is that what he really meant to say is that he doesn’t believe that homosexuality is a moral lifestyle. First of all, there is nothing moral or amoral about homosexuality, and second, it is not a lifestyle. It is a sexual orientation. This guy had it all wrong. He didn’t know what he was talking about. Even in liberal Vermont there are still people who feel this way, which is amazing to me. But it doesn’t matter what state or even country you live in there will always be those people who believe that homosexuality is wrong. One day, maybe that will change, but I’m afraid it’s a long way away.

This guy has to be one of the most «deplorable uneducated man» as many in USA and other part of the world.
Science had seen something like 40 animal species that are doing sometimes homosexual encounters.
As HUMANS are animals too (intelligent for some.. LOL!) it's not unusual to see such behaviors in men or women.
When you're an ignorant and afraid of the ones that aren't like you in any ways, you might behave like this one to avoid the work to dig in to have any answers.
I have lived in many places before settling back down in Alabama. Homophobia exists in every corner of the world. We're either downright discriminated against in places that are filled with hate or downright ignored in places that claim to be progressive. When I was young, I thought if I could just get out of Alabama, I would be able to live out my life without being hated for the color of my skin or my sexual orientation. It turns out I will never escape hatred from others, because ignorance exists everywhere. But, over the years, I have learned to eradicate my own self hatred. Thanks for this post, Joe.
But there are a lot fewer "non-believers" in VT (and elsewhere in the USA) than in Alabama.

I live in Montreal and NEVER I did witness the fear to go out and have my boyfriend aside me, holding his hand and more.
I even saw two cute young men kiss in the Old Port very touristic section without anyone noticing.
In Province de Québec, homosexuality is very accepted and more: many are proud to say they have gay friends among their entourage.
I was teaching in public high schools here and we were many LGBT teachers with no problem. The CSDM, the Montréal school board, is even protecting us against any kind of issues that could be happening providing even legal protection and lawyer.
Canada is a bit in advance in regard of the LGBTQ rights.
Religion isn't no more part of our civil and politic governments which this make it
easier too.
The 1982 Canadian Charter of Rights and Liberties sets ALL rights for ALL Canadians to live their lives freely in no fear that anyone could jeopardise their personal way of living.
