FYI: Ben & Jerry's never really made this ice cream. |
Many of the Republicans opposed to impeachment claimed that there have been no hearings and that this “rush” to impeachment is unprecedented. First, let me address the issue of precedence. When Congress impeached Andrew Johnson, Congress did so before they even drew up the articles of impeachment. Furthermore, why do you need to have hearings when every member of the House witnessed firsthand the events of January 6? The members of Congress were the victims, along with democracy itself, of the terrorist attack. Yet, one Congressman even called for bringing back one of those terrorists to testify to Congress. The Republican Party's stupidity was on full display before the world yesterday as they gave their weak reasons for defending Donald Trump.
The U.S. House of Representatives impeached Donald J. Trump yesterday in a bipartisan vote. All two-hundred twenty-two House Democrats and ten House Republicans proclaimed that country came before party and that they believe Trump is a danger to the United States, if not the world. One hundred ninety-seven House Republicans opposed impeachment and chose party over country. Listed below are those Republicans who violated their oath of office and cared so little about Americans that they voted against the impeachment of a man who incited a terrorist attack on the country he swore to protect. Four Republicans did not vote, for what reasons, I do not know. Here are the cowards who refused to do what was right for their country.

Thanks, Joe, for inserting a bit of humor into an otherwise horrific and sad post. If seeing his picture on the front of a pint of ice cream didn't put me off the purchase, that list of ingredients would!
Susan, I don't think Ben & Jerry's would ever come up with such a disgusting ice cream.
I watched all this on CNN and as a Canadian, I was flabbergasted how the Republicans, lets say «Retrumplicans», were twisting the truth to the excuse DJT's words and actions since he's in office.
They are struggling betwen their voters, the president's threats and their white old ideas of being the ones who are the leaders over anyone that is black, latinos, muslims, gays etc...
On those moments of interior threats of extremist milicias and after having suffered the assault of January 6th, we would believe that they could be, at last, seeing the real danger coming from their «fuhrer» in the White House.
They are the most blind people ever in the USA's democracy and acted as puppets of DJT's lies.
As we say, they only see the straw in the eye of the other but not the pole in their own eye.
From the outside of USA, the world is seeing all this and we are outraged and sad to see in what state of polarization with savage brutal agressive mob can riot the Capitol as it was a Walmart or a shop etc.
All this because of misinformation and sites like «Parler» or Qanon spreading their venom on US democracy and worse, with the big boost of the 45th president of USA.
What is so anti democratic is that those republicans telling the the election was rigged, they only say it for the states in which they've lost the presidency. More, some of them were even elected on the same ballots that they're now say were false or illigitimate.
Justice must be going against all those who are scavaging US Constitution.
Law and Order for who?
I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
The wonders of my hand."— The City's gone,—
Naught but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.
We wonder,—and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.
Horace Smith's competing poem to poet Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem above.
I've always been fascinated with these two poems. Shelley's is by far the better of the two. Both examine the fate of history and the ravages of time: even the greatest men and the empires they forge are temporary. According to the poets, the legacies great men are fated to decay into oblivion, but I hope the names of these traitors live on in American history forever. They betrayed democracy for personal gain and/or moral weakness.
Glad you liked my choice, Joe. It came to me as I was trying to go to sleep last night. Roderick
Donald Trump this morning on Liz Cheney and Nancy Pelosi:
No, you unnatural hags,
I will have such revenges on you both,
That all the world shall—I will do such things,—
What they are, yet I know not: but they shall be
The terrors of the earth. You think I’ll weep
No, I’ll not weep:
I have full cause of weeping; but this heart
Shall break into a hundred thousand flaws,
Or ere I’ll weep. O fool, I shall go mad!
Not "shall go" but "have gone". Roderick
Roderick, Trump has definitely "gone mad." He and many of those following him have lost their sense of reality. Even when Ronald Reagan suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's was not as dangerous as Donald Trump is right now. He's desperate and afraid, and we all know what an unhinged animal does when they are desperate and afraid.
Yup, right on! Who is the "fool" in the quote? Probably Rudy Giuliani, even though Trump won't pay him his $20,000.00 a day retainer. Roderick
Roderick, Trump cheats everybody eventually, and we know he never pays his bills. Rudy is going to end up losing his law license for nothing because he’ll never get paid for services rendered.
Love the name for the ice cream.
The Republican Representatives' motive in most cases is self-preservation in the next primary. Even those who know the Trump deserves to be impeached — and that is why they fell back on the "Dpn't divide the country" nonsense — realize that voting for impeachment would get them an opponent from the die-hard Trumpist wing of the party. What we can hope for is that at least some of them will face primary opposition from the principled wing of the party. Hopefully, that will undercut their support enough to make them lose in the general election. What the GOP needs now is for as many Trump loyalists as possible to be voted out of office.
