Moment of Zen: Acceptance

Acceptance can be elusive at times, and finding acceptance can be quite a struggle, but when you find it, it makes your heart soar, because you are no longer alone.  It can be the acceptance of many different things, but I'm sure for most of my readers, it is the acceptance of our sexuality.  After publicly coming out, Ricky Martin said, "These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed."

Acceptance is a wonderful thing. Not only did I find freedom in accepting (and loving) my sexuality, I find it in accepting my mortality. I also have come to realize that acceptance is not the same as resignation or passivity. Sometimes I must accept the call/challenge to struggle and to change, whether it be to change myself (usually the case) or something in the world around me.

To be accepted is a wonderful thing for us to know.....

And to accept someone else is even more pleasing....for us and them...

I like silvereagle's comment. It reminds me of something the Dalai Lama says: "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion."

Must notice that the «acceptance» of older gay men by the younger gay men is not quite in the mood...

Here in Montreal, there are many younger guys that totally reject us because we're over 50yo...

Many reason for that fact but I think that the gay medias are putting to much in front the «beauty of youth» and are forgetting that mature men can also be «handsome» and desirable..

I know many young men that are not in that «stereotype» and are respectful and even love older men...

So, acceptance is not quite «IN» for gay men even toward our own comunity...

Must also say that going to the USA to visit my good friends in couple for 12years(42yo and 63yo), In Rehoboth Beach, I noticed that the gay men there are more «accepting» any ages.
They are more accepting and enjoying the company of older men..

Nice subject and a lot to talk about..

(((( HUGS ))))

JiEL's comment about ageism is interesting. I know here in VA, the gays that are on the front pages of the newspapers are older, mature couples, celebrating the latest blow to state-sponsored discrimination. Not a youngster to be seen.

And thank you, silvereagle and Michael Dodd, your comments are spot on.

Acceptance is so much different from "tolerance". And what is truly needed.
