Moment of Zen: Football

There is a big game on tonight LSU (5-2) vs. Alabama (8-0). Historically, if LSU wins during an election year, Republicans win the White House, but if Alabama wins during an election year, Democrats win the White House. I'm not an LSU fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I am an Alabama fan. This gives me all the more reason to root for Alabama. If you're interested, it's on CBS at 8pm Eastern Time.

The indicator didn't work in 1920, 1928, 1944, 1948, 1952, 1968, 1972 or 1980.

They didn't play in 1924, 1932, 1936, 1940, 1956 or 1960.

So basically over the last 100 years there have been 19 matchups, 11 of which have matched the actual results. I could do as well with darts on a dart board.

If you simply allow for the fact that LSU had an awesome team in the Bush years but wasn't competitive with the Tide most of the rest of the time, there's no predictive value here at all.
