Pete 2020

Of those running for president, I believe Pete Buttigieg is our best hope. I say “hope” because I don’t think he’ll get the nomination. I believe he is by far the most eloquent and intelligent person running for president. I like Pete a lot. It’s not just because he’s gay. I actually enjoy hearing him talk about issues. I don’t often say that about politicians. I find most of them hard to listen to, but not Pete. I think he’d make a great president. I think he has great ideas. He’s also a Christian, a veteran, highly educated, and an all around nice guy.

Originally, I thought Biden was our best chance to win in November, but he hasn’t performed as I expected. Bloomberg, who I thought could beat Trump because he could outspend him, has been so beaten down in the debates that I no longer believe he is viable. As for Warren, I don’t believe she can be trusted, and she comes across as a not very nice person to me. Klobuchar seems nice, but she’s not standing out at all, and when she does, it’s usually not flattering. That leaves Sanders (I’m not even going to talk about Steyer). To be honest, Sanders scares me. First of all, he’s not a Democrat, he’s a Democratic Socialist or an Independent at best. I may live in Vermont, but I’m not a Bernie supporter. He’s just too radical for me, and I think he’d be too radical for most of the country, which means four more years of fascism. American can’t take more of what we’ve had since January 2017. We can’t take more of the stupidity; we can’t take more of the corruption; and we we can’t take being the laughingstock of other world leaders.

As for last night’s debate in South Carolina, it seemed to me that Biden and Buttigieg did the best. The crowd was obviously behind them. At the same time, the crowd seemed to turn on Sanders. The rest were just there. None of them changed my mind. I still think that if we can’t have Buttigieg, we need Biden. If Biden does poorly in South Carolina, then I think it’s the end for him. He will have lost too much steam. I would hope that would boost Buttigieg, and it would basically be a race between Buttigieg and Sanders. Can Buttigieg beat Trump? I hope so. Can Sanders beat Trump? I don’t think so.

I totally agree with you. Sanders is very abrasive and many of his supporters are Bernie or bust, no Bernie no vote. That will not win this election.

I am from Brazil, but "He’s just too radical for me, and I think he’d be too radical for most of the country, which means four more years of fascism." is not accurate. Bernie "radicalism" is far of fascism. Just look at your state of Alabama, that always was a Republican stronghold, and Vermont e Burlington! And Bernie is not a fascist, a fascist never would do this in 1995:https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=zESCS2A6VTU (a fascist never would fight homophobia like Sanders in 1995). And Peter be a veteran is a good trait for you guys in USA, because here in Latin American and in countrys of the south hemisphere, we see the USA army as arm of the USA imperialism that destroy our path to growth to please the USA corporations for profits.

Nick, I think you misunderstood me. I wasn’t calling Sanders a fascist, I was referring to Trump. Sanders isn’t all bad, but he wants a lot of radical changes that are a bit too much for me. As for Pete being a veteran, it is better than being a draft dodger like Trump.

Sorry for misunderstood you! I, as a Latin American, think Bernie will be better choice than Pete Buttigieg, for a better world. But the final choice is with you USA people.

The main bad word to say in USA is «socialism».

Too many «old» people in your country have bad ideas of this because of the era of the cold war and «communism» being a HUGE enemy.

Bernie Sanders is scaring potential Democrats voters by waving his «socialist» views like for the Universal Health Care.
This is such non sense that too many Americans see it like a attempt to take their LIBERTY of choice for their health system.
We have it in Canada and province de Québec for decades and, even if it's not perfect, is gives us FREE access to doctors and hospitals .

For Pete B, again, the lack of social evolution in many USA's states telle me that you're not ready to have a gay nan as President.
Hearing that old lady at the Iowa primary that had voted for Pete and when te reporter told her that her favorite was gay, she backed off and told that IF she knew, she wouldn't have voted for this gay guy.

For now, from here in Montreal, we are a bit discouraged to see that NO candidates here are strong enough to go and get this «monster» out of the White House.

USA is too much on «capitalism» system to even see what is going on in the rest of the world. That is such terrible as USA want to wave its religious Christian values to the rest of the world but are treating their poorest people so badly.

DJT OUT is a MUST but for WHO is exchange ?

I think Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar are the best candidates in the sense that they would be best as President. The problem is electability. I'm not as quick as you are to conclude that Bloomberg can't win. I'm also beginning to take another look at Joe Biden. If he does well in South Carolina, maybe he could build a winning coalition.

What we need is a good debater who won't let himself be bullied and who will tell the truth about how awful Trump is. Pete had a very good moment doing that last night. I think Bloomberg can also stand up to Trump in a debate.

Pete or Amy could strengthen a ticket as nominee for Vice President.

Massachusetts votes on Super Tuesday. I've go a lot of thinking to do.

I very much agree with your comments about Pete. USA needs a young individual in the office of the POTUS. Look how much that office aged Obama and Clinton during their years in office. I do agree with other posters that Pete's personal life will be a disadvantage to him. I also agree with you that Sanders ideas will be difficult to implement in the USA. In response about Jiel comment about Canada's health system, in the early years of your country starting the Universal Health system I remember everyone was running south of the boarder if they needed a hospital because it took forever to get service in your country. You may have worked out some of the kinks but it took a long time. USA cannot afford that. We have early voting here in MA and I fully support Pete. It will be interesting to see the results of Super Tuesday on Wednesday morning.
