Gulls
Gulls
by Leonora Speyer
Fearless riders of the gale,
In your bleak eyes is the memory
Of sinking ships:
Desire, unsatisfied,
Droops from your wings.
You lie at dusk
In the sea’s ebbing cradles,
Unresponsive to its mood;
Or hover and swoop,
Snatching your food and rising again,
Greedy,
Unthinking.
You veer and steer your callous course,
Unloved of other birds;
And in your soulless cry
Is the mocking echo
Of woman’s weeping in the night.

Labor Day
Labor Day honors the American Labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws, and well-being of the country. It is the Monday of the long weekend known as Labor Day Weekend and it is considered the unofficial end of summer in the United States. Here in the town where I live, there is a weekend long festival to celebrate Labor Day. There will be a big parade today. Truthfully, the parade itself isn’t that great but when the whole Corps of Cadets from the college marches down the street, that’s impressive. They all look so good in their uniforms. It’s a nice sight to see.

Beautiful Things
Sometimes it's hard to see the beauty in things, people, or life’s events. It's easy to be overwhelmed, stressed, and busy yet we don't take the time to see the beauty that surrounds us. He sees us as His beautiful creation. Remember that God has made us unique in His image. Look in the mirror and smile at God's beautiful creation!
